★ About Me ★

Hi! My name is Meaghan, but you probably know me by my online aliases Aahli or Spacewusky! I made this little website to be a quick little summary of my art and give the locals a list of places to follow me!I'm a 36 year old, queer artist who lives with my husband (Dennis), dog (Maggie), and a small clan of gerbils in Cleveland, Ohio.
As a kid I wanted to be an animator for Disney, but then I read Cardcaptor Sakura in 6th grade and decided I wanted to draw comics and work on my own stories instead.
I graduated from MCAD in 2008 and afterwards self published my former webcomic, Grim Reaper School which I sold at local anime and comic cons in Memphis, TN. A couple years later, Dennis moved to the USA and we sold our artwork and commissions together in the Memphis con scene. Neat!

Art-wise, I guess I'm known for a cute anime/manga inspired style. I currently spend my art time working on commissions for fellow furries and designing snazzy adoptables! Someday, I'd like to branch out into designing merch+apparel, game design, and maybe projects for creative kids! If I'm lucky maybe I'll even finish my several neglected novel projects! I have a lot of creative hobbies, including photography, scrapbooking and making stuff for dollhouses. Someday I'd like to be able to focus on my characters and their storylines, and create imaginary worlds for other people to play in.My dream is to be a full time artist, for my stories to be turned into animated series, and to make fun projects that inspire others to be creative! Collaborating with my favorite creators is also on that list, even though they say you should never meet your heroes.I'm not very good at writing these so uhhh yeah lmao. I guess if you wanna know more you can shoot me a message at your social media page of choice or visit my discord server! I like talking about the stuff I make! ♥
Anyway, thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy my art!

★ Shop ★

It's me as a baby!

Right now we only sell prints of our work via Redbubble! However, RB has a bad habit of deleting things for weird reasons.
(Their bot checking bot is a little trigger happy... lol)
So if you don't see something in the shop you'd like a print of (original or fan art only) please contact me and I'll see what I can do ♥

★ Questions and Answers★

Q: How long have you been drawing?
A: Since I was 4 or 5? I grew up watching animated films and cartoons. My family was very creative and loved Disney movies, so I just kinda naturally grew into making art and writing stories about characters I made up!
Q: Did you want to be an artist when you grew up?
A: When I was a wee bean I decided I was going to be an animator for Disney someday. I would storyboard my own "cartoons" and coerce my friends into playing the parts of the characters. I had other things I wanted to do too, I went to a lot of plays and watched Rodgers and Hammerstein movies with my family, so I would write plays and perform them in front of my relatives and my friends. Voice acting was also one of my major interests. I decided to pursue comics after I read manga in middle school, which was a big surprise to my family lol. The short answer is YES, I knew from day one I was going to have a creative career of some kind.
Q: Did you go to art school? Would you recommend it?
A: I did go to art school. I attended the Minneapolis College of Art and Design from 2004-2008 with a major in comics! Looking back, I wouldn't say it was the best experience, but it was what I wanted and my parents worked really hard to help me follow my dreams. Today, I think it's possible to learn a lot more about art and art business through the internet. There are so many free and affordable resources that didn't exist back then! So, I'd say Art School is more of a personal choice.
It's a good way to get a more structured study experience. You can meet other artists and creative people, experiment with different mediums, and maybe even learn more about art history! If you crave a challenge, then maybe Art School is for you. I would recommend applying for a lot of scholarships or grants, though, because it can be expensive and student loans are a real bitch. And you should definitely be prepared for the elitism and favoritism that comes with the art school experience. A big part of my time at school was spent being ridiculed and bullied by teachers and fellow students for drawing furries. Fun times. Supplement your education and try to learn as much as you can about your career of choice from people in the business, if you can! Be open to learning your foundations too! Maybe things have changed since I graduated, but I definitely left art school feeling like I had no support and no knowledge and I had to figure out a lot of things myself or by seeing what other people did online. The phrase "monkey see, monkey do!" will definitely be your best friend when it comes to being a professional artist.
That's just my two cents though! Take it or leave it.
Q: How did you get into self publishing?
A: I had a teacher at school that told me the if I wanted to self publish, I should start a blog, post my art, and network with other artists. So that's what I did. I spent a lot of time online, so as webcomics grew in popularity, I learned about print on demand websites, zines, comic listings and ad spaces. As a kid, one of my dreams was always to be published and to have my books sold in bookstores, but I'm also a perfectionist and a control freak when it comes to my art, so I decided to try self publishing instead. I printed my first set of comics on my home printer, my second at a print shop, my third through Lulu, and I took them to cons to sell them! I was part of a literary magazine during high school, so I really enjoyed putting the pages together, designing the book back to front, and then selling it at local cons. I also posted it online and promoted it EVERYwhere I could think of. I did have to get a day job in order to afford to print copies of the books and other stuff I wanted to sell, but you have to support the dream somehow, you know?
Q: What do you use to make your art?
A: I used to draw everything traditionally and color it in photoshop (or color it traditionally) but after Adobe started its subscription model, I had to switch to something else. I used Paint Tool SAI for a bit, but drawing with a Wacom tablet and computer has never been easy for me for some reason. So now, I draw with my iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and most of the art itself is done in Procreate. I add things and edit stuff in Clip Studio Paint on my laptop, sometimes with a Wacom Intuous Tablet I was gifted in 2007 lol.
Q: Do you take commissions?
A: Yes! You can find all of my commission prices, examples and my Terms of Service over on my Commissions Website !
Q: Do you sell your work at conventions?
A: My husband and I used to sell our work at conventions under our studio name, Lunar Blaze, when we lived in Memphis, TN. Covid pulled the rug out from under us, unfortunately, and then we moved to Cleveland, Ohio! We have yet to sell at a convention in our new city, but we hope to in the future!
Q: Do you take art requests or do art trades?
A: I do not, and the primary reason for this is because I am very forgetful and with everything I have going on in my life, it's easier for me to forget free art I owe people than to remember art that is paid for. I prioritize my commissioners and my personal art above everything else. So to avoid hurting someone's feelings and to spare myself the stress, I don't take them, I'm sorry. Unless it's a very specific circumstance or with someone I know and trust, I just don't offer them in the first place. Sorry for the inconvenience!
Q: Will you be the artist/writer/designer for my project?
A: At the moment, I don't have the time to create content for other people's projects, especially not for free. I have had a lot of bad experiences doing this, so I'm very picky about who I collaborate with and I'm less likely to unless I know you or you have a reliable background. I also am very unreliable at the moment, as I technically have 3 jobs and I'm lucky if I remember my own name half the time lol. This may change in the future but as of 2/28/2023 I am not for hire. Sorry.

Additional terms and contracts may be involved if the project requires it.●If any of these terms are broken, I will take legal action. Thank you for understanding ♥
